Die Trac Tech Institute Moves out of GFW -- Due to lack of support from Grand Falls-Windsor council, Die Trac has re-located to Lewisporte where they were welcomed with open arms and sold the former College of the North Atlantic building for $1.00 -- Die Trac courses begin in Lewisporte this September and are no longer offered in Grand Falls-Windsor. The dispute with the town resulted when council refused to give Die Trac a permit to operate out of the former Booth Memorial building (school) in Windsor. Council was concerned by the amount of noise that would be created by post-secondary students, yet they approved a youth centre for teenagers to be established in the former Pentecostal Elementary school building just hundreads of feet down the road. This decision has upset the local business community with the local Chamber of Commerce president stating that local business people get turned down when wanting to refurbish a closed down building, while council goes out of their way to build a new building at tax payers expense for an American company that wanted to locate a call centre in GFW. --August 16, 2002 Joe Clark Visits Town -- As part of the local federal by-election campaign by PC contender Rex Barnes, former Prime Minister and current Tory leader Joe Clark paid a visit to Grand Falls-Windsor on May 4, 2002.
